Dr. Elizabeth L. Paul

16th President of Capital University

Meet President Paul

On July 1, 2016, Dr. Elizabeth "Beth" L. Paul became the 16th president of Capital University, having served the last seven years as the senior academic officer at Stetson University in Central Florida.

As a national leader in higher education, Paul's many accomplishments include redesigning financial and data infrastructure to support data-driven decision-making; introducing multiyear budgeting and planning models, and strategic enrollment management; growing diversity and inclusiveness; strengthening academic programs and university marketing strategy; and championing organizational culture change to connect and unite everyone to one university mission.

When she arrived on campus, President Paul immediately recognized the importance of Capital's place in Columbus. Capital is a private university partner in innovation, ideas and learning approaches that extend beyond established boundaries to build capacity, tackle social challenges, and improve lives through higher education.

Let the Purple Roll

For the Inauguration of Elizabeth Paul

Let the purple roll from the library’s edge,
an ever-growing tide that lasts
through the years, spreads its life to the feet
of a saint who holds his bread and offers
it to all--food of mouth, food of mind--
past the labs, the bridge, the oak that parades
its gorgeous yearly death down on the heads
of teacher and student, offering its own pages
to their story. And let the purple roll
to the fountain’s murmuring lip, its tongue
speaking in rushes and then quiet asides,
like a class filled with voices. Let this place
last as long as the grass, and let us all,
led by a spirit of hope, be the quiet wind
that carries us with purpose year after year,
as long as there are ideas to hold,
as long as there are hearts to nourish.
